'Orion Starscape over Ullswater'
We are blessed here in the Lake District with dark skies and Ullswater is an amazing place to visit late at night and watch the stars. This is one of my favourite views and I love the silhouettes of the mountains reflected in the lake.
Here you can see the lights of Glenridding & the Inn on the Lake with the mountains & hills of Glenridding Dodd, Sheffield PIke, Helvellyn, Place Fell, High Dodd, Dove PIke, & a few more. In the sky on the far right you can see our sister galaxy Andromeda, 2.537 million light years away, the most distant object visible to the naked eye & one that contains a Trillion stars. Above Helvellyn you can see Jupiter with Pisces & Cetus below. Uranus is visible above this and the you can see Pleiades, The Seven Sisters in Taurus. Orion, The Hunter is to the left of this and the Monoceros. Orion is a winter constellation and one of the most recognisable constellations of the night sky, one of my favourites both in Astro/landscape images and also deep space.
A stunning, quiet and beautiful night to be out with my dogs & camera
