The Horsehead & Flame Nebula
'The Horsehead & Flame Nebula'
If you look to Orion's belt and find the left hand star, Alnitak. Its a supergiant star with roughly 20,000 to 250,000 times the luminance of our sun. Our eyes can't see it due to how dim it is to our naked eye, the Horsehead & Flame nebula also lie either side of Alnitak. Here you can see both nebulae in their full glory, taken from my back garden in northern Cumbria.
The Horsehead & Flame nebulae lie around 1350 light years from us on Earth and they are both stellar nurseries, where stars are born. The horse's head is around 4 light years high and 3 across and is made up of dark gases, obscuring the nebula behind.
Its a photograph I always dreamed of taking, as soon as I knew it was there and after many years of looking up and wondering, I finally got the equipment together to take this shot. Its one I am very proud of and I think, beautiful
Its made up of around 4 hours worth of exposure time
Everything is printed using the finest papers & ink so will never fade
All mounts are a light Ivory mount
Frames are traditional Oak or Painted Black
Both standard glass & ART glass are UV resistant
Everything is made locally to the highest standard using Cumbrian businesses
