The Horsehead & Flame Nebula are in the constellation of Orion, The Hunter. Both located just to the south of Alnitak, the easternmost star of Orion’s belt and is part of the much larger Orion molecular cloud complex. The horse’s head is actually clouds of dark gas obscuring the bright emission nebula behind and is 4 light years high and 3 across. Our whole solar system would fit in to the tip of the horses nose its so large. Located 1375 light years from us on Earth these are truly massive and beautiful clouds of dust and gas and are stellar nurseries where stars are born. All things I find truly mind blowing.
