Aurora over the Vestrahorn
Well, I never would have thought I'd ever have a night like this. I'd travelled 1300 odd miles to finally stand on the black sand beach at Stokksnes and see the Vestrahorn for myself. This was 2/3rd of the way through the best show of aurora I've ever seen, and the view was so 'big' that even with a 14mm lens I had to do multiple shot panoramas while running in and out trying to avoid incoming waves and capture the view reflected in the wet sand. I spent a few hours doing this and ended up colder than I've ever been and at times knee deep in the North Atlantic in -6. I loved every second of it....
A 26-image panorama of the iconic 'Vestrahorn' with the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) dancing across the skies and the constellations of Ursa Major, Cassiopeia, Andromeda & our sister galaxy M31 (The Andromeda Galaxy). The Andromeda Galaxy lies 2.537 million light years from us here in the Milky Way and contains a trillion stars. Currently our two galaxies are hurtling towards each other at 300,000 miles an hour, set to collide in 3.4-4.5 billion years.
