Astrophotography at the Grizedale Observatory

Come to the amazing Grizedale Observatory and learn how to capture amazing astrophotography with your own camera & basic kit

Join Ben for the night to learn the basics. How do you focus at night? how long should you expose for? These questions and more will be answered using Ben’s knowledge of long exposure & astrophotography & you will have the chance to spend time learning the skills to capture stunning night sky images for yourself. The introduction to Astrophotography workshop is aimed at those just starting out and need instruction on the basics. The basics of Astrophotography with tracking mounts is slightly more complex and focuses on using tracking mounts to expose for longer, allowing better results, cleared images and if used with a long lens or telescope then also capturing some DSO’s (Deep space objects)

The Observatory at Grizedale is the perfect place to learn astrophotography. Blessed with some beautiful dark skies and with their facilities are second to none. Join us there for an evening of Astrophotography and discussion while learning how to capture amazing photographs for yourself

An introduction into Astrophotography

Join award winning astrophotographer Ben Bush for an astrophotography workshop here at the Grizedale Observatory.
On this workshop we spend time learning how to capture beautiful pictures of the night sky using a basic camera, lens & tripods setup.   Astrophotography doesn’t have to cost the earth, and some amazing results can be achieved, without specialist equipment.
Join us at the Grizedale Observatory to learn for yourself.  We cover the basics of how to focus at night, the correct settings to use, file formats, exposure times & everything else you need to know to be able to capture amazing astro photos for yourself.  The skies above Grizedale are dark and filled with wonders, making it the perfect place to come and learn for yourself.

Basics of Astrophotography with tracking mounts

Join award winning Astrophotographer Ben Bush for this astro workshop
This workshop works on learning how to use tracking mounts to capture long exposures of the night sky with camera & lens or your camera and telescope.
When doing long exposures of space, we are faced with the issue of the earth’s rotation.  Expose for too long and then the stars will ‘trail’ losing their sharpness and making lines rather than nice sharp stars.  When taking photos of deep space through a telescope then this effect is magnified, making it essential to use a mount that allows us to match the rotation of Earth, making longer exposures possible, meaning more light can be captured, therefore achieving better results.  This workshop will show you how to use your tracking mount and touch on the post processing needed to get spectacular results.  Ben will have a couple of tracking mounts and telescopes with him but if you have one then bring what you have!

You do not need a telescope for this workshop and if you know the basics (see above) then you can come and experience some tracked skies and some Deep Space for yourself
